Days 3, 4, 5 and 6

Wednesday I went to work.. I tried uploading a picture but for some reason, it won't work... Grr.. I had a crazy day on Thursday... Want to school, practiced an hour in the lab, and then went to class. Well my class was no where to be found... Can you believe it? The syllabus said room 222, and guess what... It was NOT in room 222! I went to the teacher and asked if she could help me and even she was confused... Argh... Stayed extra to do my code grey video which is a video on ethics in nursing... So boring... But intestine.. At least rowboat I could hear.. Tere were these obnoxious girls just chit chatting ay the whole time.. I was like "shut up!" and they got attitudes with me.. Ugh drammmaaaaaaa Friday I had work again.. Baby girl is growing up way too fast! She is wanting to walk already.. She's 8 months old... I'll try uploading another picture again. I woke up at 3am today, to take my mom to the airport. She's going to Peru for 2 weeks... Ok vie... What's my life going to be like for to weeks without my mom??... Saturday, I had a child birth class to attend. It was interesting, and to he honest, made me want another child. We're talking about the possibility of starting to try for our baby in the next 2-3 months so that I would have time with boards, and finding a job... We shall see! Today is Sunday, we woke up late, I took jj to church school, and then we went to eat lunch after. He's at his father's house and Jay and I are at home, getting stuff ready around the house ready for the week... We have my cousin coming over this week to help out with Justin on the mornings I have to leave super early.. Jays mom is coming next week to Eli out while I go to school, Jj's got no school next week... My birthday is in 13 days... I feel so.. Ugh.. 24 this year...

WITL Day 2 & hopefully writing Day 3 along the way

Yesterday was a busy day.. I had school at 7 am, I left my house at 5:45, and sat in traffic for over an hour and a half... I hate DC traffic with a passion, and especially when the weather is crazy.. We had thunderstorms in the morning with very little drizzling, and a funeral procession (wtf I know!) but the traffic was intolerable! You'd think we had a blizzard again with the amount of traffic there was... Anyways, after I made it to school we watched a few videos on Labor & Deliver and massaging the fundus (the top of the uterus) and BUBBLE HER (assessing breasts, terus, bladder, bowels, lochia (discharge from vag deliveries), episiotomy, homan's sign, inforgot the second E... And respirations... ) haha! Had an hour to drive from school (which is 45 mins away from the hospital) to the hospital and grab lunch along the way.. Sat in traffic for about 30 minutes before it cleared up... Went to the hospital and saw the new L&D suites. I can't wait! So exciting!! After school and hospital and everything else, I went to pick jj up, went to the park, called FedEx about my new iPad, and made broccoli cheddar soup for dinner. Tryin to figure out how to upload my pictures directly from my phone without having to send them to my email lol.. Ah well.. Had Zumba at 8:30pm, and it truly KILLED me last night. I felt it in my calls, my abs, my neck!... Very nice workout though! Came home, did some homework and took a shower and went to bed.. Today (Day 3) I woke up at 6, to JJ sneezing, coughing and crying... He has a bit of a fever, which SUCKS because that means he got the cold I was hoping not to pass onto him... My cold turned into pneumonia, a week of antibiotics and 6 boxes of tissues later, my cough is still there. And now JJ is presenting the same symptoms.. :( Ahh I just realized the time! I wrote for about 40 minutes. Lol going to get JJ ready now.. Talk to you soon!

Week In The Life (Part Deux) Day 1

Hey!!! It's been such a LONG time since I've been on here! Wow wow wow... lots to catch up on... But for now I'm just going to get right down to it. The girls and I have decided to do part 2 of WITL which was a great experience the first time around. I've been a Zumba addict since October. And I've lost 10 pounds since I started to do it. I LOVE IT! Only 10 more to go! I'm down to my final 7 weeks of Nursing School! Can you all believe it?! It seems like just yesterday I started! I'm planning on going into the NICU with a specialty in Palliative Care. I want to be able to care for those critically ill babies and assist their parents with the transition to death need they get that far.. I'm also planning on getting certified to teach Zumba, and run a low impact prenatal/post partum class for expecting & new mothers. We shall see! One step at a time! And for now RN is my goal! On a side note, I've been cooking and baking more. And began to experiment with new items and new recipes... I made falafel last week... Ehh wasn't the greatest.. But the couscous was Devine! My ikea plates have become my favorite to dress up in our dinner and take pictures of. :) in sure you've all seen them on Facebook and such haha.. But yeah.. I would like to take a culinary arts class and get more ideas of how to cook certain foods.. We shall see!! May 14! Mark your calendars ladies! May 14, 2012 @ 6:30p I will be graduating as a Nurse! =] woot woot!! Okay that's all for now, getting ready to go to Zumba :) will post pictures soon!

HELLO!!! I'm back! And I've missed blogging!! I took my final today (well technically yesterday now...) and I PASSED!!! Onto my 4th and final semester in NURSING SCHOOL!! I'm so excited!!!! Aahhhh!! I've got some fun stuff planned for during the break!: --bake --cook --CRAFTS (knit, crochet, arts with my 5 year old) --and WRITE A FANFIC!! I'm giving this a second try! I had a patient last Friday who inspired me to write his story, and I figured I might as well during the break! So wish me luck! I'm also planning on blogging a little more and hopefully not just send all this writing into some sort of unknown vortex and actually get some feedback.. Well I've got student brain mush now.. Going to bed will write more tomorrow regarding plans and such! Registering for 4th semester in the morning!! :) -Ally

Yesterday was my baby's first day of Head Start. It's kind of like Pre-K but only 1/2 day. He was so excited to go then when we got there he froze! He saw the "big kids" and the buses, and all the commotion and he just FROZE. Stood at the doorway of his classroom with such a scared look on his face and then s.l.o.w.l.y opened up to his teacher, Mrs. Hart (I sense a craft idea brewing in my head for Christmas time!) and her assistant (Mrs. Escobar). When I went to pick him up, she was just DELIGHTED to have him in her class. He got the "Super Star Student" award sticker and she said that he is such a good helper!! :) That's my baby boy!! I couldn't help but tear up as I left his school because my little baby is growing up so fast!! Seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant with him.. Seems like just yesterday that I was graduating high school and was fearing having to tell my dad about the pregnancy. And now here he is, in Head Start (I'm REALLY hoping she'll transfer him up!!!) at the elementary school with the big kids..
I began thinking about my first day at school (I was 3 when I did Pre-Pre-K which is the equivalence to Head Start in New York) I remember looking at my mom through the little window on the door, and then running to the sand table where I bullied everyone to get away from. It was MY sand table and no one else could share it! ((OASN: I just thought of a cool sand table idea for our yard!!-- must look up on Pintrest if anyone else did it!!!!)) and now, 20 years later I'm still going to school--MONTHS away from my desired degree-- and I begin to wonder about Justin's future. He says he wants to be a Nurse, like Jay and myself, somedays, then he says he wants to be a doctor, a fire fighter was the most recent "want" career for him. (personally, I'd love for him to be the BEST neuro or cardiac surgeon in the country or even the WORLD! And that would mean 30 more years of school for him...) whatever he decides to be in the future I'll be there to support him and to guide him in the right direction, and it all starts with Head Start!
This is the beginning of the rest of your life, my love!

Running will be the death of me...

I started school Monday which is why I haven't posted since my last post.. I have been busy with Jj's school stuff, my school stuff and my new jib (which I absolutely LOOOVVVEEEE!!!!!--I'll get to that in a minute), that I haven't had the opportunity to go running since Saturday. I tried running today after the 4 day break-- oh! And with 2lb dumbbells...-- well 1/2 way through my run.. On the 2nd uphill my airway constricted and I felt like I was drowning on land. I had to call Jay to come rescue me with my inhaler and had to cut my run short.. Boo...!!!!! I did manage to do 1.3 miles in 25minutes and 0.6 of it was the running.. So, not bad for an asthmatic walking.. Tuesday I began my new job.. Nannying for the almost 3 month old baby. I absolutely LOVE her!!! It's making me want another!! She's so cute!! And jj LOVES her also.. I went on a 2 mile walk with the baby in the jogging stroller on Tuesday and with jj next to me. It was fun but I wish I could have ran... Eh.. Whatever... Tomorrow is my first day at clinicals and I have a HUGE skills "blitz" exam. It's a random skill that I'll be tested on from the skills I have learned in the past year-- foley insertion, wound care, IV infusion, NG tube insertion, med admin via NG or PEG tube, IM and SubQ injections.. Oii...-- wish me luck!!! Then I'll be meeting my new unit (Cardiac unit!-- something good came out of my crappy schedule!) I've heard WAH is DIRTY..

Hurricane? Run!

I went to SAMs club yesterday and bought everything we are going to need for this hurricane. Got 2 cases of water, some yogurts (which are now frozen--if we lose power it'll slowly defrost back into yogurt), baked beans, chef Boyardee (which I found out we've been saying it wrong all these years! It's Boy-Arrr-dee), cup noodles, pb&j.. Bread to last us about a week (some of which I froze as well!), and numerous other stuff. My cabinets are full, and both my freezers are filled with stuff. Saw people buying ELECTRIC mini stove tops also and I just had to giggle.. If we lose power they won't be able to use those stove tops.. I have a solution to that problem! The GRILL! our pots and pans can handle direct fire.. So why not use that as the heating source?? Now I have a small charcoal grill that I could easily put a pot to boil water on.. And since it's small enough the fire will be small right? We shall see.. Hopefully we'll never find out if it works..

Today is Jay's 28th birthday, and I feel bad because we have been stuck here until Irene is gone. We were supposed to go to New York for a family reunion picnic last night.. Would have been great except Irene is heading straight towards NYC.. AND Jay's mom got instructed to go evacuate patients and take them to another location. I'm worried about her.

With all this excitement, I still went out for a run this morning. There is no gas anywhere, and milk & water aisles are EMPTY! I'm going to take pictures to show yall. It's worse than the "rapture" we were expecting. It's worse than any blizzard we've had.. And I'm still praying they close school on Monday. Gives me an extra day to study.. My dad is stuck in Florida until next Saturday because there are no flights to NYC until then. I've told him to transfer his flight to Washington DC for Monday when we are no longer in Irene's path and then I'll pick him up and they can rent a car to get there before their flight is expected to leave. he said he would try-- which in his world is "forget about it". He's such a thickheaded "New Y'awk'er" Lol..
Anywho, to whoever is reading this-- I hope you are all safe and that Irene stays out of your way! Evacuate if you're told to, don't wait til the last minute to pack stuff up.
Until next time
<3
