HELLO!!! I'm back! And I've missed blogging!! I took my final today (well technically yesterday now...) and I PASSED!!! Onto my 4th and final semester in NURSING SCHOOL!! I'm so excited!!!! Aahhhh!! I've got some fun stuff planned for during the break!: --bake --cook --CRAFTS (knit, crochet, arts with my 5 year old) --and WRITE A FANFIC!! I'm giving this a second try! I had a patient last Friday who inspired me to write his story, and I figured I might as well during the break! So wish me luck! I'm also planning on blogging a little more and hopefully not just send all this writing into some sort of unknown vortex and actually get some feedback.. Well I've got student brain mush now.. Going to bed will write more tomorrow regarding plans and such! Registering for 4th semester in the morning!! :) -Ally

Yesterday was my baby's first day of Head Start. It's kind of like Pre-K but only 1/2 day. He was so excited to go then when we got there he froze! He saw the "big kids" and the buses, and all the commotion and he just FROZE. Stood at the doorway of his classroom with such a scared look on his face and then s.l.o.w.l.y opened up to his teacher, Mrs. Hart (I sense a craft idea brewing in my head for Christmas time!) and her assistant (Mrs. Escobar). When I went to pick him up, she was just DELIGHTED to have him in her class. He got the "Super Star Student" award sticker and she said that he is such a good helper!! :) That's my baby boy!! I couldn't help but tear up as I left his school because my little baby is growing up so fast!! Seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant with him.. Seems like just yesterday that I was graduating high school and was fearing having to tell my dad about the pregnancy. And now here he is, in Head Start (I'm REALLY hoping she'll transfer him up!!!) at the elementary school with the big kids..
I began thinking about my first day at school (I was 3 when I did Pre-Pre-K which is the equivalence to Head Start in New York) I remember looking at my mom through the little window on the door, and then running to the sand table where I bullied everyone to get away from. It was MY sand table and no one else could share it! ((OASN: I just thought of a cool sand table idea for our yard!!-- must look up on Pintrest if anyone else did it!!!!)) and now, 20 years later I'm still going to school--MONTHS away from my desired degree-- and I begin to wonder about Justin's future. He says he wants to be a Nurse, like Jay and myself, somedays, then he says he wants to be a doctor, a fire fighter was the most recent "want" career for him. (personally, I'd love for him to be the BEST neuro or cardiac surgeon in the country or even the WORLD! And that would mean 30 more years of school for him...) whatever he decides to be in the future I'll be there to support him and to guide him in the right direction, and it all starts with Head Start!
This is the beginning of the rest of your life, my love!

Running will be the death of me...

I started school Monday which is why I haven't posted since my last post.. I have been busy with Jj's school stuff, my school stuff and my new jib (which I absolutely LOOOVVVEEEE!!!!!--I'll get to that in a minute), that I haven't had the opportunity to go running since Saturday. I tried running today after the 4 day break-- oh! And with 2lb dumbbells...-- well 1/2 way through my run.. On the 2nd uphill my airway constricted and I felt like I was drowning on land. I had to call Jay to come rescue me with my inhaler and had to cut my run short.. Boo...!!!!! I did manage to do 1.3 miles in 25minutes and 0.6 of it was the running.. So, not bad for an asthmatic walking.. Tuesday I began my new job.. Nannying for the almost 3 month old baby. I absolutely LOVE her!!! It's making me want another!! She's so cute!! And jj LOVES her also.. I went on a 2 mile walk with the baby in the jogging stroller on Tuesday and with jj next to me. It was fun but I wish I could have ran... Eh.. Whatever... Tomorrow is my first day at clinicals and I have a HUGE skills "blitz" exam. It's a random skill that I'll be tested on from the skills I have learned in the past year-- foley insertion, wound care, IV infusion, NG tube insertion, med admin via NG or PEG tube, IM and SubQ injections.. Oii...-- wish me luck!!! Then I'll be meeting my new unit (Cardiac unit!-- something good came out of my crappy schedule!) I've heard WAH is DIRTY..

Hurricane? Run!

I went to SAMs club yesterday and bought everything we are going to need for this hurricane. Got 2 cases of water, some yogurts (which are now frozen--if we lose power it'll slowly defrost back into yogurt), baked beans, chef Boyardee (which I found out we've been saying it wrong all these years! It's Boy-Arrr-dee), cup noodles, pb&j.. Bread to last us about a week (some of which I froze as well!), and numerous other stuff. My cabinets are full, and both my freezers are filled with stuff. Saw people buying ELECTRIC mini stove tops also and I just had to giggle.. If we lose power they won't be able to use those stove tops.. I have a solution to that problem! The GRILL! our pots and pans can handle direct fire.. So why not use that as the heating source?? Now I have a small charcoal grill that I could easily put a pot to boil water on.. And since it's small enough the fire will be small right? We shall see.. Hopefully we'll never find out if it works..

Today is Jay's 28th birthday, and I feel bad because we have been stuck here until Irene is gone. We were supposed to go to New York for a family reunion picnic last night.. Would have been great except Irene is heading straight towards NYC.. AND Jay's mom got instructed to go evacuate patients and take them to another location. I'm worried about her.

With all this excitement, I still went out for a run this morning. There is no gas anywhere, and milk & water aisles are EMPTY! I'm going to take pictures to show yall. It's worse than the "rapture" we were expecting. It's worse than any blizzard we've had.. And I'm still praying they close school on Monday. Gives me an extra day to study.. My dad is stuck in Florida until next Saturday because there are no flights to NYC until then. I've told him to transfer his flight to Washington DC for Monday when we are no longer in Irene's path and then I'll pick him up and they can rent a car to get there before their flight is expected to leave. he said he would try-- which in his world is "forget about it". He's such a thickheaded "New Y'awk'er" Lol..
Anywho, to whoever is reading this-- I hope you are all safe and that Irene stays out of your way! Evacuate if you're told to, don't wait til the last minute to pack stuff up.
Until next time

New York Skyline

I've seen everyone with these cool looking nail polish stickers lately.. it's the new craze.. I went searching for them at CVS where I've heard people have gotten them, and turns out they are close to $20 for a 24 pack! I've had to say NO to getting them.. UNFORTUNATELY-- I really liked them.. especially the pink ones. I walked into my favorite bargain store (FiveBelow) and I found these for $3!! Aren't they cute?? I'm so glad I found them! These are my last "hoorah" before school starts on Monday (there's a no nail polish policy in nursing school... BOO!)

Last night Jay made meatballs for the first time. He used my turkey meatloaf recipe. And with my supervision they came out good!  Here he is cutting the sun-dried tomatoes... he was going "ew ew ew.." the whole time-- it's a texture thing.. plus the oil the tomatoes were in made him all grossed out.. lol "I can feel a pimple coming through on my hands" he said as he sliced them, yeah they were THAT oily.. but oh so good!  The mixture. I just dropped them into the sauce and waited for them to float and then allowed them to boil a bit more, I bit into one and it was still kind of gooey. I think next time I'll make them first to ensure they're cooked all the way through.

Last week when I had the duo birthday party for both my cousin and Jay, I realized how BARE my walls were.. We are renting for now, so there is only so much we can do to the place--especially since we are looking for a house of our own. We went to Target and I instantly fell in love with this "painting" which is a scene from Brooklyn Heights, of the New York Skyline and Brooklyn Bridge. Growing up in Brooklyn, this is the scene I always saw from my bedroom window (until about 4th grade when we moved and I could see the Statue of Liberty while using binoculars.. haha). I just HAD to have it.. problem is, when we went to check out it was $50! (it was in the clearance aisle above a label that stated it was $20) I was so bummed I fought with the manager and tried to get them to give it to me at that price.. it was just "misplaced".. B.S! So I left it, and was actually looking at "How to Create a Window Effect on a Bare Wall" ideas all day yesterday. When I got home, this is what I saw:
He bought it for me! He said that he saw how nostalgic I had gotten when I saw the picture, and that it has true meaning behind it for the both of us. Granted I had the view and he was on the other side of the island, but lots of memories at New York City. My wall is not to bare anymore!!! I am however looking at doing something about that chandelier above our IKEA table... Perhaps one of the jar projects I stumbled upon when I stumbled upon Pinstrest last night. I'll get a picture of it up so you can see, and hopefully I can get some feedback and ideas from you all!

Today, we went on our run!
C25K day 4:
Distance: 1.50 miles
Time: 31:41:16
Pace: 21mins per mile
Not bad at all for someone who has never ran in their life right? Today I am beyond sore again. 150 crunches last night, and 150 leg lifts. Well, thats all for now!

Running log. C25K day 3

Today's jog/walk went well!
Milage: 1.19 mi
Time: 29:45:02

I had the two 4 year olds.. a 9 year old and the dog.. Let me say. I thought it would be hard at first with such a huge crowd, but it ended up going well! I'm proud of the kids and I'm proud of myself for continuing this and not giving up especially since I'm so sore from last night's crunches and leg lifts (did 100 of each-yikes!!). I'm thinking about going out for another run with the kids after lunch & naps..

To Do:
[ ] read chapters for Monday's lecture
[ ] buy walk/running shoes
[ ] buy work out clothes. My long pants aren't cutting it anymore..
[ ] survive the last day (tomorrow) with the family...

Turkey Meatloaf, red velvet cake and a run

I've never been a turkey person. Growing up, turkey was mainly for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Recently I read in my friend's blog Summer Creations that she had recently switched her family to turkey. Decided to do the same.
I searched high and low for a turkey recipe I would try out with my family, and have it be simple enough that if we liked it that I would be able to prepare quick enough expecially wth school literally right around the corner. I found this recipe for Turkey Meatloaf and decided to try it out! Let me say.. I was a bit scared at first.. but oiiii vie!! GREAT!

Bread crumbs, feta cheese, eggs, parsley, sun-dried tomatoes ready for the turkey.

Ready to be mixed, and baked...
I read on Little Pink Monster that the American culture has us eating pasta with all the sauces and the empty calories.. So I decided to give it a try. Let me say... This dish has made me realized that indeed we have been eating pasta the wrong way for YEARS!!!
I made some bow-ties with peas and Extra Virgin Olive Oilm salt, pepper and a bit of butter to bring it all together, let me just say. YUUUMMMM!!!!!!!!!! The family ate all of it!!! and asked for more!!! I'm thinking this very "concuction" will be delicious meatballs!
For dessert-- the oh so SINFUL Red Velvet Cake.... oi vie... OH! and some ginataang... yep.. it's the DREADED week... ugh...

So this year, I have promised myself that on top of my already crazy busy schedule, I have decided to take running as an extracurricular activity. I have signed up for the SearchCure walk in September, a Halloween run and a Turkey run in November. I've never ran a day in my life, and so therefore in order to succeed in my walk, and the two runs, I have to train! I found the Couch to 5k training and have decided to use it to help me train. Today was day 2 of the 1st week.. and I feel GREAT!! Tomorrow I will add more info of my distance and all.

What do you get when you mix snow peas, carrots, baby corn, broccoli, shrimp, ginger, soy sauce and sesame seeds?? That's what was for dinner tonight.. :)

Take too many pictures...

"As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down... probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you have never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back."
This quote has been my favorite quote since high school. High school.. it's been 5 years since i graduated high school... We had our 5 year reunion at a lounge last night. I decidednot to go. It's been 5 years afterall!!! These are the people who looked at me funny when I found out I was pregnant. These are the people that would make fun of my best friend and I. Why should I go right?? Anyways... that's enough about high school... haha...

I don't know why I decided to start writing about high school... It's so weird... I'm in the middle of a huge breakdown...I'm nervous about school! It starts in 8 days, and I havent finished reading yet.. I'm not even HALF WAY done yet!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! okay... thats all... that was my little random entry for today...

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

This summer, my family has decided to get together once a month at each other's house for dinner. I'm on dinner duty tonight. This means cooking for 8 people, cleaning the house, doing dishes (we don't have a functioning dishwasher... Except our hands...), and still have time to juggle everything else in life..

Today is my cousin's 19th birthday, and Jays is on the 27th, so I decided to do a duo birthday celebration dinner.. It is a Thanksgiving in August theme. Menu tonight?? Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato pie, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and or course... Red velvet cake!
So here's my "fabulous" decoration:

Breakdown part 2

Being a mom is no easy task. No "expecting" books warn you of the constant battle of juggling motherhood with everything else and how difficult it is to handle sometimes.

I'm a mother before all- to a beautiful, smart, adorable 4 year old boy. I am a student battling nursing school stress, drama and then some. Constantly finding myself putting my child on hold while I study.. One more year I tell myself, but it'll be another year less to watch my son. I am a nanny who just realized that the amount of time being spent with someone else's child would be much more than the time spent with my own child.. I can't have that.. I have decided to decline the head start program for jj because of the little time I would have left to spend time with him. If Tuesday's & Thursday's are all I have-- so be it. I'll spend time with my child Tuesday's & Thursday's. No amount of money is worth as my time with my child--not even close! Brings up another dilemma about the nannying position-- their daughter is 3 months old, and although it would be good "practice" for jj and myself for when my own daughter comes along, it'll be exposing jj to someone much younger than he, and not having anyone to play with his own age during those two days.

I am seriously reconsidering this position.. I'm reconsidering my school.. I'm reconsidering everything in life.. Except my child. See, no one tells you about all the juggling one would have to do as a mother, and I think someone ought to-- to prevent this very breakdown that I (and other women out there juggling the same as me) am going through..
Tomorrow, I will tell the new family that Jj's coming with me and that's that. If they have a problem with that.. Well then it wasn't meant to be & I'll move on..

Emotional/mental breakdown...

We are all allowed days where we can just cry without a care, right? Today was that day for me... I received a call saying I got the nannying job--who thought I wasn't going to get it?-- and I began crying.. Jj's starting head start after labor day, which means he'll be going to school 3.5 hours a day 5 days a week.. And then to Kindercare for the next 4 hours daily. I won't be seeing him during the week... It made me so sad! I mean I can drop him off at school on monday&wednesdays but then I won't see him until late at night those nights... And I'll be working from 11-4 on Tuesday's and 8:30-4:30 on Thursday's... Thursdays I won't be seeing him in the morning! And who know about Tuesday's... Fridays I have clinicals at 6:30-5:10 on the other side of the world... ((sighs)) life sucks sometimes... Im having a hard time thinking about this semester's weird schedule.. I hate it already..
I wrote Jessica (the little girl I cared for the past 4 years) a note for her first day of school and I broke down crying even more. I'm having a hard time thinking about this semester's changes... I'm nervous... And as I write this post, I'm crying some more. :( I just needed to get that off my chest.. :/

Days 6&7 and then some.....

Ugh I've had one hell of a week!!!! Too busy & too stressful to even sleep! But now it's Friday (Friday Friday gotta get down on Friday... Sorry...) and I have a chance to sit down without Justin wanting my phone & just write about it all.

When we left off on Monday I was exhausted and the day was going by TOO SLOW!!!! I think my Facebook status was "the day is passing more slowly & painfully than a walnut sized kidney stone..". I meant it!! The seconds felt like minutes & the minutes felt like hours!!! And I drained my phone battery life 2x (!!!!) in a course of 8 hours... Saw Peter pan with the kids didn't study.. Whoops!!

Tuesday was just as bad. & to my surprise everyone seemed to have felt the same way. My news feed was all "I'm bored"s and "what's going on Facebook?? The days dragging!!". Ugh!! Nothing exciting happened on Tuesday really. We watched lion king 2 at naptime & skipped a nap altogether..

Wednesday, I had to take jj to the health clinic for head start (which is a 3.5 hr preschool program here for low income families.. I was hoping for the preK which is full time! Darn!) got to work late.. The girl I babysat for the past 4 years turned 5! And it was national s'mores day & there was a cupcake recipe on "the babysitter bakes" blog & I just HAD to try it!! Pictures on tumblr on step by step in my yummy but messy creation! And then disaster hit!! I went to golden up the "marshmallow" tops for the mom & the stupid broiler switched itself from lo to hi & burnt the tops... Pictures on tumblr I promise ! It's been crazy! But at least I'm OFF for the next 2 weeks & I got paid for it & when I come back it's only 2 days & I'm OUT!!!

Yesterday was our 3 year anniversary & it was the craziest of days for me. My cousin came over to play with jj while I went to take my CNA exam for the CNA position @ the rehab hospital ((which I passed & had a mini interview I might add!)) I'll be contacted again soon in a few days I was told. Fingers crossed!!! Came home, made lunch for all of us and then we took naps! I then had to wake jj up, take him to my moms & go meet the family I told y'all about with the 3 month old... They're Jewish.. And you know what they say about Jewish people & their money... He tried to lowball me and say $12 an hour ((for a 3 month old!!!) and I was like "I'm making $13 right now.. And it's much closer to home.." so he said "fine. $13.50." I'll take it it's still 50 cents more than what I was making now & it's more hours which equals to $100 more a week than what the other family tried to pay me for only Tuesday & Thursday. Big difference!! Went to enter my stuff at the fair (hope it wins me some ribbons!!) and bad to haul ass home. We celebrated our 3 year anniversary by goin out for sushi to where we had our 1st date.. The "hurry up and order" place like we call it. The lady ruined our 1st date & ruined our anniversary dinner last night.. Stupid lady I don't know why she's still there.. As soon as I plopped the last piece of sushi in my mouth she came over & was like "oh you finish!! I take away! Dessert?" I looked at her and opened my mouth to her and said (with my mouth full) "does this look like I'm finished???". Haha highlight of my night!! Had cold stone ice-cream (cheesecake fantasy.. Mmmm!!!) and bought jj a bottle of Cabernet dated 2007 for his 21st birthday. $55 bottle of wine!!!!! Yikes!! But I've been meaning to buy him one since he was born & I wasn't old enough to do so back then.. 4 years (and 2 hers after turning 21...) later I finally bought it for him.. The guy said it should be good until 2028 (YIKES!!!) and that it was a nice gesture. I hope it tastes well in that year!

Today we are going to the pool with my mom and then making Ceviche (YUM!!!) and I'm going to go pick up stuff from SAMs for Tuesday's "Thanksgiving in August duo birthday celebration" dinner I'm throwing for Jay & my cousin. She's turning 19, and jays turning 28. Although he SWEARS HE'S TURNING 27... he's so forgetful. He seriously does think he's turning 27 this year haha! "I'll be 30 in 2013..." exactly! It's 2011 now!! 28!! But no haha..

Anyways that was my week in the life of.. And then some.. I hope we do this again soon! I've definitely liked the whole blogging thing again! Perhaps I'll keep it up this time around.. Use this as my school/life/blah blog & use the other one as my yarn things blog.

Until next time! signing off
<3 Ally C.

Day 5

I can't believe the week is coming to an end! I'm saddened!! The week has gone by real quick... Perhaps I'll make it an additional day or two, who knows..

Last night my mom called me and INSISTED that I go with her to the Mexican restaurant here to see her friend L and husband G, since I haven't seen them since I was about 10. So I did.. They got lost coming to her house.. I waited until 9pm for them to arrive, I was missing true blood and I couldn't have that! Finally they arrived, and we went to the restaurant. Ordered a margarita since I needed one after waiting close to 2 hours for them.. Boyy the margarita was delish! But it gave me a headache.. Got hone at 11:10 just as the 2nd showing of TB was starting. It was weird.. So by the time I cleaned up, showered and went to bed, it was close to 2:30 am again.

This morning ivwas woken up at 7 by the oh so ever kind construction workers drilling a hole in the sidewalk next to my window.. ARGH!! stupid people. Came to work. I've had 3 cups of coffee & my headache still won't go away--& I'm still tired.. The kids won't nap.. Ugh..

Anywho! Got a phone call from a lady who needs a babysitter for her 3 month old daughter. Of course I jumped in & accepted! She needs me the two days I'm off & she pays about $20/hr! :) so excited!! :)

I feel drained so I'll try to nap with the kids (IF THEY NAP...)

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Day 4

Hello! It's Sunday! I don't want it to be Sunday! That means tomorrow is Monday and that means back to work for the next 3 days before a week & a half off!
Today JJ woke me up at 9:00 with his "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MOOORRRNNNIIINNNNGGGGGG!!!! GET OUT OF BED!!" and then followed by "I'm hungry!!". Ugh.. Seriously?? This kid eats ALL the time..

Went to SAMs club for groceries for the week.. Came home made lunch (southwestern ranch pasta salad with tortilla chips & turkey & cheese sandwiches). After lunch JJ & I decided to take naps. (NAP??? MIRACLE!!!)

My nap was cut short (aww man I knew it was too good to be true) when the lovely thunder decided to be extra loud & rattle the whole house and scare the crap out of me.. And then the studying began.. I'm sitting in bed with my books all around me, pandora on in the background (Thriller!) and I just wanna go back to sleep.. I've been drained lately! No strength! Nome whatsoever!

Anyways, posting up pictures on Tumblr to go with today's entry. Will write later also! :)

Day 3

Saturdays are usually a day to sleep in, right? Wrong! My eyes flew open at 6:30am and only after about 4 hours of sleep all night... So decided to go yard sale hunting with my mommy dearest. There was a family selling all sorts of newborn girl clothing/accessories.. unfortunately I don't know anyone who is expecting a girl otherwise I'd buy some..
Also a family selling gas cans! Seriously?? Didn't we learn anything from the Casey Anthony carnival?? Crime involving gas cans can be traced back to a person who owns the cans.. Anyways, aside from that freak show, found the community flea market!

Bingo! Got some cute christmas headbands for my friend's daughter who is 6 months old. And Harry Potter books! Found years 3&4 for $1.50 a piece- BRAND NEW! (Now all we are missing is #6.. )

Saw a friend from school who I haven't seen since about 3 years ago.. we took our anatomy classes together and were supposed to go through nursing together--not only had she dropped off the face of the planet but apparently she dropped out of school.. Which sucks because she could be finishing up next year with me! she's working at the hospital that I jut applied to as a surgical tech, and I asked her to put in a good word for me for a PCT position.. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Anyways.. Have a birthday party to go to today, but don't really feel like going since it's super cloudy & dark & gloomy, my joints are killing me which could only mean one thing-RAIN- and lots of it! Matter of fact, it's starting to thunder now.. Perhaps we can get out of going.. HAH!

Jj's asking for lunch now so I guess I'll get going to feed him a little something before we leave. Will update later :)

Day 1 & 2

I quit my job yesterday. I told her I was done babysitting 3 kids and making crap pay.. I did it, can't believe I did it.. Unfortunately I'm stuck here until the end of summer. But once the school year begins I'm out..

As for today, let's see.. I woke up at 5am and was in and out of sleep for about 2 and a half hours. My mom came to drop JJ back off at the house, and the morning began.. I burnt my waffles, spilled my coffee, broke yet another glass, and had to haul ass to work.

While here, the dog (who I swear has fleas!) rubbed up all over me.. Ugh.. Please wash the dog often.. If you bathe your dog once a year, it's not enough... Bathe the dog!!
I allowed the children to watch Up while I attempted to study.. Ended up getting sucked into the movie.. (here I was calling the old man Mr Furgeson and it's FREDERICKSEN! who knew??) did maybe about 1/8th of a page of reading.. Emailed my professor asking if I could switch into a different clinical group & different lecture since I have lecture 2 days a week at 4pm until 6! Oh.. And I should probably add that the 495 rush hour traffic at 6 is not the prettiest.. Stupid DC commuters... And my clinical group is all day FRIDAYS at the hospital in DC!!! ugh! So 3 days a week I'll have to deal with not seeing my family for dinner or bedtime.. UGH!!!!

It's almost 1pm and the kids still won't nap. And I'm exhausted and just want to sleep with them.. So as I sit here writing this entry my eyes are slowly closing and I wish that I could learn the stupid chapters I have to read through osmosis.. Wouldn't that be nice?... ((sighs)) will update more later.

Of course after I hit submit the kids went to sleep.. Work dragged on for the rest of the day unfortunately. Managed to occupy the kiddos with fuse beads for over an hour and a half... Which is a HUGE accomplishment because JJ has the attention spam of a dog when it spots a squirrel. Went to borders, had to go look for the Harry Potter books we are missing especially since everything is like 25% off now.. Found only year 7.. So now we are missing years 3,4,&6. Haha..

Got home, and decided to walk to elevation burger for dinner.. 1.5 miles there and 1.5 back! Made me feel good! Will definitely be running that route soon.. I need to get in shape. I've been on a 90s kick all night.. Watched the bsb concert from '98.. Watches bsb videos, Britney spears.. Hanson, on spice girls now.. Haha I actually miss the 90's.. Haha
Anyways, going to sleep now. Yard sailing with my mom tmrw morning.. Posting pics on my Tumblr since my lovely phone won't allow me to upload onto here..

A week in the life...

This is a repost of Wednesday's entry from my Tumblr

A Week in the Life-
A project my friends and I are all part of in order to get closer again after about a year of craziness. As you may or may not remember, I began nursing school last August and that meant two things- my life goal was closer to completion & my life would be on hold yet complete hiatus for the next two years.

I had to say goodbye to my friends, goodbye to my leisure reading, goodbye to my knitting and even goodbye to sanity. I said hello to 60lbs of books, 30lbs of weight gain, 3 packets of paper, DEBT and white uniforms.. The first year had it's ups and downs.. Had scares of failing 2 times, but ended up pulling through & passing! (1st half of my 2nd semester I passed by 2 points!-CLOSE CALL!)

May 11 came, took my final exam, and the moment I received my "YOU PASSED NU123" email the celebration began! We have hit the pub next to the school after every final and will take shots for each "you passed" email our peers receive (we joke that we will be alcoholics by the time graduation comes). Not only did the Irish in all of us come out, but my knitting made it's re-debut back into my possession! I put all my nursing books away and knit my heart out (This summer I have knit 4 market bags, tons of baby socks [M I still have your stuff driving around with me.. My apologies!], a sweater, and crocheted tons of baby hats to donate to the NICU). I attempted to read some books for "FUN" but my love for reading was taken away by the dreaded nursing books.

I became a "swim mom" this summer & let me just add.. My 4 and a half year old som did AMAZING! Swim practices 5 days a week in scorching heat made it hard to bear through but it was all worth it. I got to work on my tan for the first time in AGES. I also got JJ involved in summer reading programs for the library, Barnes & Nobel, Borders, Scholastic and even Chuck E Cheese. He has read a total of 60 books on his own this summer so far, and has won an award from the library for being an overachiever. Tried to get him into Kindergarten for this year, but the doors were just shut in my face over & over again. No one has wanted to give him an opportunity to show his abilities because of his late birthday. He did however get into the head start program in the schools which is 3 and a half hours daily, five days a week for the school year. So that would be a big help. I'm working on getting my horrendous schedule changed to one that would allow me to be there for release time so we wouldn't have to spend money on child care for a couple hours so I could go to lectures and then come home when the family is sleeping... So wish me luck on that!

I'm currently looking for another job, as the current job has just made me reach my boiling point. (who signs a contract stating a set amount per week for the whole summer & then says "I can't afford it this week" & doesn't pay you?? Well I couldn't afford to go into debt with my parents to be able to pay for food and bills...) Unfortunately no one will hire me because of my "lack of experience"... You know what I have to say about that... PPPPFFFTTTT!! how am I to get experience if you won't hire me to GAIN experience?? So I have my CNA license and I can't even put it to good use.. Blah!

I found out one of my best friends has cancer, which got me paranoid and made me proactive about early detection.. I found lumps in my right breast which were concerning to my doctor who sent me to get a mammogram & ultrasound. A mammogram at 23! OUCH!!! Luckily the results came back negative, but there's a new lump under my armpit, and the one that got checked out has grown.. So to a boobie doctor I shall go..

And this brings us back up to date, to today, as I sit on the couch watching the rain fall, I feel the weight of the books on my legs and it's a reminder that I need to get my butt back to reading before the first day of classes. Then my life will be on hiatus YET again.. One more year!!... Until tomorrow!
